Self Storage and Brewery Combo Coming to Fort Collins

From self storage underground to celebrities and self storage, the industry isn’t short of its unique stories. However, here’s the newest concept – self storage and beer. One self storage company in Colorado is trying to become the first to make this happen. Stan Scott of Fort Collins Self Storage LLC purchased six and a half acres of land at the corner of Lemay Avenue and Buckingham Street, which will be the future site of a self storage facility and microbrewery and taproom. The property is officially being managed by Aspen Property Management LLC and was previously owned by the Mountain View Community church.

The proposed self storage facility will be 80, 000 – to 100, 000 square feet and the brewery is set to occupy 5, 500 square feet. The $6 million dollar plan was originally proposed to Aspen by Ken Merritt of JR Engineering. Merritt set up the concept for ewview by city officials back in September 2014.

Talking to the Boulder Valley, Merritt stated “You benefit from all the others. Given all the people who do the brew tours in Fort Collins, it gives them another quality place to stop.”

The future brewery will come complete with an outdoor patio and deck. The self storage facility will be climate controlled, have space for drive-up storage and be accompanied a 1, 500-square-foot management office and 1, 500-square-foot caretaker residence.

“Our brewery won’t be for the new brewer just coming out of their basement, but for the aspirational brewer that wants to move to the next step beyond the typical three barrel brewery that is common in the industry,” Scott told the Coloradoan.

“With employers in the area like Poudre Valley Hospital, Colorado State University, Woodward, New Belgium and OtterBox providing high-quality employment to our citizens, we feel confident about the future of Fort Collins, and we proud to be a part of its continued development,” he continued.

Self storage and beer isn’t an entirely new concept. The business model has been successful in Denver where an old airplane hangar was transformed into a self storage facility with a beer garden nearby. The project was a part of the Lowry redevelopment.

The project is set to start in the next six to eight months. Until then, we eagerly anticipate how Fort Collins will welcome the new self storage and beer combination.
