There is a big difference, you know? - When you take the kids for trick or treating, you are merely there to observe and supervise. You can care less about what's going on, you just want the kids to have some fun, collect some candy and be done with it
On the other hand, if you go out with them to trick or treat, you are being engaged and are a willing participant. You might even get all "halloween" dressed up and compete to see who gets the most candy. You will definitely have more fun and, I'll bet you..., your kids will too, even if they feel embarrassed at the beginning.
